Addiction

Here is how this addiction is effecting us.. Yesterday Ethel is taking her daughter to school, and in the distance she spots a large item along side the road.  She immediately sits up a little straighter in her seat, her heart starts to race.  Gives the car a little more gas, just in case some one coming in the other direction is thinking the same thing.  What could it be, she says to herself.  And then thinks if I stop before school my girl will be late.. As she's getting closer and closer the anticipation is killing her, if she leans forward she might get a better angle... Finally, she is close enough to see...A CARDBOARD BOX... The wind was blown right out of Ethel's sails.
Needless to say they were not late for school.

Our first piece of Furniture

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Quite a difference!  Donna I think this would look great next to the clock.  Found the fabric first, and knew exactly what color I wanted for the chair.  We distressed slightly and glazed to tone down the blue.  Wish you could see in person, the color and paint were a match made in heaven....
Any takers?
Let us know.
And post a
note.

May 23, 2011

I think we're hillbillies!  I guess it's a good thing we took the truck. I knew we wouldn't get out of there without buying. The back seat was also full.  This was yes, another auction, but this one was at a house.  Never been to one of those.  We did get some fantastic pieces, can't wait to work on them! Ethel put a bug in the ear of one of the auction employees, telling them we want to work for them.  Look at us 4 auctions and we think we have what it takes.  They did have a intern auctioneer at this sale, so that's what gave us the idea. We are partial to Steve, a seasoned auctioneer. He moves things right along.  When he gets tired things go cheap.. So we always stay till the end.  Even if we don't need anything.. It's entertainment.  We worked on a few things today. I'll post them tmr. I didn't get a good after picture, bad light.

May 20, 2011 QUILTS

Oh yea, we make quilts too!  Ethel is not going to be very happy when she sees this post.  Especially since she is still trying to finish her first quilt, the one she started a couple of years ago. Her son swears he'll never see it completed.  She thinks we don't have enough hours in our day to do what we already have.... Easy Ethel... we can do it.
The St. Marys quilt was for a special girl, and the baseball one was for my son, that is him and his sweet girlfriend.
They make great graduation gifts, and a great way to use up all those t-shirts you had to buy over the last 4 years.
Anyone interested just post a note. We'll get back to you... And tell your friends!!

May 20, 2011 SOLD

The clock is gone!  Sold it the same day I posted it.  Our first sale.  What a good feeling.  Tmr we will be attending another auction.  We are just going to watch...then why do we need the truck??   JJJJust in case.   We will be working on some things in the afternoon. Thanks for stopping by!! Have a great day!

May 20, 2011 3rd Auction

Well tonight we went to another auction.  My husband even showed up to see what all the excitement was about.  I can tell he was secretly enjoying it.  It does get your blood pumping. Ethel starts to get her headaches, when she gets excited.  I will have to medicate her before we come next time. When I took one of purchases to the car, an item that I was considering came up, I missed out on it.  I think my husband got upset with me because I wasn't in my seat to bid.. See what I mean you get caught up in the excitement...  He's a novice, little does he know there will always be more next week.  He did not join in our garlic pizza we had this week, he just sat and stared.  You need to keep your strength up at functions like this.

May 19, 2011 Clock

We're so proud!!!  Here is our 1st piece. Remember we are beginners, so it's baby steps.  This is a cast iron piece we got at the auction.  It's kind of hard to see the color, but it's robins egg blue. Very Fressshh!  It keeps perfect time.  If anyone is interested the price is $22.50. Great price!  Ethel wants  to keep it.  Sorry sister, we need to start makin money!  This little lovely might bring us a couple cans of cat food.

May 15, 2011

We organized yesterday, and we now have a work area.  You may not think so, but we know right where everything is.  Except for that gorilla glue I brought.  It's still missing... I think I threw it away.  My husband was impressed at our progress.  I think he has faith in us.  He did call me yesterday on his way to a ball game (surprise) to let me know of 3 yard sales going on.  He is enabling our addiction.  He said he'd better start to see some paint being slopped around.   He doesn't scare me!!  Do you see the large red velvet dresser in the background. We refer to those pieces as THE BIG MEXICAN, and THE LITTLE MEXICAN.

May 15 Was I right or what?

AWFUL!!!  It hurts my eyes to look at it. The white plastic pieces that are glued on also have gold glitter.  When it is turned on there is a soft orange glow. And how about that mosaic inlay on that formica "WOOD"  Who was the genius who came up with sticking a pole in the middle of a table. Maybe it was a stripper pole in it's first life. There is an ugly lamp contest going on....Shall I?

May 14 20011 What were we thinking??

Well I guess I'm not a complete moron when it comes to downloading photos. Look at this mess!  This was all found along side the road and the auction we went to.  I think we have a sickness... I ran across this word "DISPOSOPHOBIA"  Yikes, we're in trouble.  Went to a church rummage sale this morning and spent $5.00 Coffee table soon to be bench, end table, don't know yet, and the worlds most hideous lamp.  I will dig it out, it deserves it's own photo.  You'll see!  For a buck what the heck, my son loves that kind of stuff. We have given ourselves a couple of dates to get some things done and SELL at the flea market.  We will make it.... Notice the bug zapper on the one dresser. That was a free bee, we will use that with our night vision goggles, trying to hit our dead line. We work good under pressure...
And what about that night stand with the red velvet insert, and there is a dresser that goes with it. Quite a lovely piece I might add.  Can you believe some one was throwing that out? Ethel said she is having nothing to do with that piece..She will be sorry, it is going to be quite a metamorphosis when I'm finished with it!!!

Day 1 May 14, 2011

Today my friend sent me this blog site on redoing old furniture. I was hooked, neglecting my job, I couldn't tear myself away.  And come to find out, there a a million of these kind of sites out there.  Thank God her boss was out of the office, because I didn't stop calling saying " Can you believe these women and their ideas... and yes I'm sure they are all women"

A week later, and garage full of junk, a name, and we're in business baby!!!!  We are now partners!!!

We went to our first auction last Friday.  Never laughed so hard in our lives.  Being newbees, they took pity on us, and gave us some direction, thank God, because we were clueless.  I'm sure we stuck out like a sore thumb.  When we left we didn't spend but 50.00 and that included the nachos they auctioned off. Yes, they bring in food, pizza and mexican.....They don't want you to leave, so they feed you.  We were starving, so nachos it was!!  Found some fabulous pieces, and we can't wait to redo them.  We will post them as soon as we figure out how to use this site. Never did a blog before...
